Attend a Free February 26 "Show & Tell" Where I'll Discuss "First Mention of Lithuania on a Map"
Is this 1311 "Letoini pagani" the first mention on a map known today?
1311 (published for the first time in 1611 by Bongars) ("Map of the World") by Pietro Vesconte
Or is it this 1321 Vesconte with "Letoini pagani"?
1321 Pietro Vesconte ("Map of the World") published by Sanudo
Or is it this 1375 "Litefanie Paganis”?
1375 Abraham and Jehuda Cresques' "Catalan Atlas"
Consider the evidence I will present at a free virtual event hosted by the International Map Collectors' Society on Wednesday, February 26 at 1:00 - 2:30 pm New York (EST) time (12:00 - 1:30 pm Chicago time, 6:00 - 7:30 pm UK time, and 20:00 - 21:30 Lithuania time). Register here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/imcos-map-show-tell-spring-2025-free-tickets-1222009797199?aff=oddtdtcreator
My presentation will be one of eight 10-minute presentations -- I don't know when mine will be -- along with ones, for example, by "Venice in Peril" on the conservation of an important Coronelli Globe, one on a Blaue map of a French region, and one on a Lufthansa air map "with a Cold War twist". All presentations will be in English, and there will be time for questions. I hope to see you there online.
